Pleasure in Play of Material and Color
Puwakaramba Enterprises is a fabric importer branching out to the Galle Road at Moratuwa.
The brief called for a fresh branding and marketing face and space; with visual connection to the receiving, racking, display and distribution of fabric. The shop is meant to be seen from the Galle road traffic; seeking attention suffice to stand out from the monotony of built faces along the straight drive.
The leased premises had to perform these functions and the construction project had to stay inside the company’s budget in the trying post Covid market conditions.
The brief and budget is met with toning down what was not needed to be seen with a Charcoal Grey colored paint drowning it to the background and draping a metallic fabric like penetrable skin over the existing mundane masonry structure.
Malleable Metal
There is a sense of intrigue about flexible form that is attractive; a hard material combined with a simple construction ingenuity can lose its rigidity.
Bending the Aluminum metal makes it seem as it was made from fabric; like a fabric will fold and drape in beautiful form, this sculpted metal facade allows the building to transform with spectacular views along Galle Road depending on your vantage point.
Charcoal Grey & Color
The company had an ex-stock of colorful fabric that were slow in sales and the idea of a textile formed and colored ceiling eased the pressure to reduce the interior refurbishment material costs.
Interior walls, floors, slab, beams and columns continue to be washed in Grey; while the ceiling bursts into a multitude of color and texture in the fabrics imported by Puwakaramba Enterprises.
Air conditioning units, light fittings, cashier furniture and all other utility accessories of the interior are grey and black to throw the fabrics to the foreground.
The textures and color of the fabrics roles on display for sale are offered visual priority while the dated and ordinary shell of architecture is drowned in Grey both inside and out.
